Self Portrait of an Iceberg, detail

This painting's brightly colored abstraction was achieved by melting watercolor wash ice cubes on the prepared paper, and letting them "paint" the image, letting their pure colors run and meld together naturally. The paper was positioned so the sun could warm the colors, as though waking from a nap. I used a spray mist and wet paper to help the colors move, and also angled the board sometimes.
